Cock Pit
I started working on the interior it was blue and I am changing it to black. This car is just a daily driver and I still have my fastback to restore yet so I decided instead of spending Bank on the interior I would save some money and try dyeing the back seat which was in excelent shape and removing all the trim panels and painting them Satin black. It was a slow process there where alot of little tiny items i had to clean and paint but it's starting to take shape. I also lubed all the window tracks while I had it apart so the roll up and down very easily. everything turned out great the headliner has a few dull spots in it but lets face it how often do you look up when your driving the car. all thats left is to get the front to seats recovered which I plan on doing myself. I also installed a CD player that is I-pod ready, blue tooth,USB port, and it also has a SD card slot so you can down load songs to an SD card and then just slide it in and bingo you got 300 songs at your disposal. I thought that was very cool. The next step will be painting the car we are going with a Competition Yellow and 2 Metallic Dark Silver shelby stripes.

Home Stretch
The drive train is all done and I got the front end alighned and it rides smooth. I just took it for a drive yesterday. I striped the old carpet and seats out of it and the floor looked great rust free with even some of the factory paint still there . With a little cleaning I painted it black and put just the drivers seat in for now I always do that so I can do the interior last after I finish with the paint. the next step is sanding and primer.

My dad is here for 2 weeks so were pulling some long nights to get this thing road worthy. with the engine/trany pulled it was time to power wash the engine compartment , I will paint it tommarow and do wiring. we got the rims and tires mounted and balanced today they look sweet. I used some chrome bobcat valvestems for the rims to personalize it.

Nothing But Time
Staying home has it's rewards and I love my kids. Although I am a person thats needs a project to work on every now and then at night for a few hours to have some alone time and relax in the garage after the kids go to bed. So after my 1978 ford f-100 supercab had a freak accident and caught on fire and Burned to the ground in the Parking lot at the air force base I had nothing to work on for a few months. So when dad suggested coming to visit and bringing me one of my mustangs down to work on I Lept into action getting the new Engine ready. It's a 302 C.I.D. that I bought from a guy who had it in a 69 gt mustang It was very well kept and has low miles. I had plenty of time to clean every bolt and replace all the gaskets before the final coat of Old Ford Blue paint. I also bought a Holley 2300 series 2 barrel for it. and Put an Electronic Ignition Dist in it.
Stop Before you Start
I learned a long time ago when starting a restoration project on a driver car the BRAKES come first always. why fix a car up and accidentally wreck it because you can't stop. With that being said here is a picture of the car up on the rack at the Central Community College in Hastings Nebraska. where my dad who is newly retired from teaching High school science for 39 years has a new passion old cars "Mustangs" of course I couldn't be happier. LOL. he enrolled at the college to take there brakes class and did a complete brake job on this car for his class. I live In South Carolina. and he will be trailering the car down to me on jan 8th. to help me install a new engine and finish the restoration. as you can see by the pics this baby needs some TLC.
A Diamond in the rough
I am starting this blog to document the restoration of a 1970 mustang coupe. I found this car in my home town Edgar NE. I used to ride my bike by this car on my paper route when I was a kid for years. It sat inside an old barn "with no door" down by the swimming pool, some how it escaped the elements , the car is virtually rust free. I then found it 25 years later inside some old garage in Edgar . the car was up on jack stands. with the brakes torn apart and never finished , hence the urgency for the brake job which my dad going through brakes class at CCC was happy to help out. thanks dad. And so it begins I plan on restoring this car and having it done by Oct 2010 to give to my wife who is in the Air Force as a gift for fighting for this great country she will be coming back from Iraq on a 4 month deployment. It is also her B-day on Oct. 12 same time she is scheduled to return from the desert. So all around this will work out great.
